The Stereoscopic Society of America (SSA) is a group of active stereo photographers who circulate their work among their contemporaries. Each member is assigned to a "folio". Folio groups usually consist of approximately 25 members. These members then circulate their images among their designated group. Print, transparency and digital formats are used, and several folio circuits are utilized to meet the needs of each format.
The member inserts one of his/her images for each circuit rotation. When a folio arrives, the member has the opportunity to study each view and make comments on the entries of the other participants. This process enables the stereographer to get constructive criticism from his/her peers.

The individual image that the member has inserted then travels through the circuit and is continually examined and commented upon by the other members within the folio (see example of comment card at right). Upon return, the participant removes his/her image and replaces it with a new entry. The member also has the opportunity to vote for their favorite images. (Points are given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Yearly results are reported to the members by the folio secretary and are also highlighted in Stereo World.) The folio then continues its endless travels around the circuit once again. Many long distance friendships have formed over the years among folio members.
Due to the mailing time restraints folio membership in SSA has been restricted to the USA and Canada. The Stereoscopic Society is affiliated with the National Stereoscopic Association (NSA) therefore a membership in NSA is required in order to join SSA and participate in its folios. Annual membership for the SSA is $10.00.
